What
Is Pilates?

Joseph
Pilates was born in Germany with polio. He developed a determination
to explore and further physical and mental health. Pilates played
many sports and became a professional boxer in England, where he found
himself at the outbreak of WWI. He was interned and put in charge
of rehabilitating injured P.O.W’s.
When the amount of work became unmanageable he created the system
of springs that inspired the equipment we use today.
With this knowledge, students will develop a greater awareness of
their bodies and create a better balance for health and longevity
through enhancing the bond between mind and body.
Pilates methods use the deepest muscle layers to balance and control
deformity and pain through a process of lengthening muscle engagement.
The method blends breath, balance and control to energize and stimulate
all corporeal systems.
